Current Hyperfixations:

  • Filmmaking

    • Honestly, it’s hit me out of nowhere, but the world and language of film continue to enthrall me and I want to learn as much as I can. You should see my massive YouTube queue

  • Studying the work (and faces) of women nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards

    • See first point

    • Also I’m working on a little project on this subject, which I’m excited to share more about later

  • My new DJI RS 3 Mini

    • I have been eyeing and saving up for this gimbal for six months and I really want to create some cool stuff with it. Right now I’m still learning the ins and outs but I’m so excited to have a new tool at my disposal.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was not an easy holiday. I worked the entire day at my restaurant job, and don’t get me wrong, the food was delicious, but I missed my family. Thanksgiving is a big deal down south. In New York, a lot of people go out to eat or they go on vacations, but any respectable southerner cooks their own Thanksgiving dinner with their own oven . Back home, Thanksgiving is always at a relative’s house and the whole family cooks and comes together. My PawPaw made the best Pumpkin Pie, special for me. My Nana made the best Deviled Eggs and Macaroni Salad. It would be an especially stressful day if my dad ever had to cook the turkey, but everything always came out delicious. Unfortunately, in my family that all hasn’t happened since COVID for a myriad of reasons, some for better and some for worse.

All the same its hard seeing traditions die. And it’s hard starting new ones, especially if they involve you serving other families a turkey dinner instead of eating your own. I was lucky enough to spend time with very close family friends after it was all over, and it was such a wonderful bit of tradition to have in an otherwise lonely day. Still, I wish someone up here would put some marshmallows on their sweet potato casserole.
