My Latest Roll of Film Part 2

#10 Skeleton Samba
The Times Square subway station is rich with all kinds of talented performers hustling to make money with their underground acts. One of my favorites is this gentleman I’ve repeatedly seen. He partner dances with a skeleton dressed in a wig, makeup, and high heels. The man is really a master at puppetry, mixing comedy, latin dance, and the mildly macabre. I’m hoping to get this photo printed to share with him soon.

#11 Shirley in the mirror
I feel very fortunate that several of my childhood friends moved to New York same as I did and I see them pretty regularly. I’ve known Shirley since the first day of sixth grade, and 15 years later we’re still going strong. We spent a wonderful day out together a couple weeks ago and I captured this candid photo while we were in an adorable little jewelry shop.

#12 Woman with bicycle and greenery
I spotted this lovely woman while people watching in Washington Square Park. Shirley and I had sat down to watch some aspiring K-Pop stars film a video, and here she comes with a red bike and lots of greenery in her basket.

#13 Window light from The Met Cloisters
In my Saint Catherine research I decided to visit the Met Cloisters to better understand her significance in early Christianity. The Cloisters are lovely and there are spots in the architecture where you can be fully transported to the time the original art was created. I had such a moment looking through these windows, in the monastery. These windows were narrow and high up, but they allowed just enough sunlight to trickle in. I was really struck by Catherine’s humanity, seeing a view similar to one she had maybe seen from her prison cell.

#14 Empty car on the B Train
It’s a rare sight to see a subway car totally empty. On my morning commute I caught this slightly creepy and peaceful moment.

#15 Girls with Heart Balloons
I would like to do a series where I walk around and photograph New Yorkers with balloons. For the days leading up to and following Valentine’s Day I saw a ton of people with heart shaped balloons, including these two high school aged girls who had come from shopping at 5 Below.

#16 Valentine’s Day Treat
Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday, as I’ve previously mentioned on this blog, and one of the many reasons why is because everything is shaped into hearts. Heart-shaped candies, sweets, bath bombs, pizzas…you name it, they probably made a heart-shaped version. Here’s a donut from Dunkin’ Donuts, shaped like a heart which is a practice I wish they kept year round. <3

Cheers!
